Boreddd
What to say, what to say.

I don't know.

Michael's birthday is tomorrow.  He's going to be 22.

Cheryl's birthday is Sunday, and she'll be 20.  Yaaayy!

My car's going to be fixed tomorrow!  Then Chantal and I are going to go to Target to look for bathing suits.  Fun, right?  Ha, yeah, right.

Bored bored bored.

Where's a Muse when you need one?

So, if anyone's in the area, the library's having a book sale today through Saturday.  The books are cheap, if you want to go look.

Hmm, what else?

I don't know.

I can't think of anything else.

I'm listening to the White Stripes.

God, I'm bored.

Maybe I'll go back to playing Dynasty Warriors 4.  Maybe.  Maybe not.  I don't know.

Gah.

Ok, I'm gonna go.

Wednesday Wizardry
As part of Terminus's focus on the communities surrounding Harry Potter, we are offering weekly challenge prompts for the online fan community. We invite you to answer the prompt with any creativity of your choosing -- whether it's a drabble, a sketch, something more involved or something totally different -- in the comments to the post. We hope you'll consider joining us in celebrating not only Harry, but the creativity of the fandom, as we approach Terminus.

This Wednesday Wizardry is eligible for House Points! The House that wins the House Points competition will be awarded the Tempest Cup at the Departure Breakfast. For each Wednesday Wizardry until Terminus, up to four points will be awarded. The points might be awarded to one response or four, one house or several, or not at all. To have your response considered, please name your House at the end of your entry. You may choose to include any House in your entry, but please note that once awarded, points cannot be transferred to any other House! Entries will be considered until the next week's challenge is posted. Best of luck with your entries.

Please do not include personal information (such as your name, address, or booking code) with your Wednesday Wizardry entry. You only need to include a House name for the entry to be considered for points.

This week’s Wednesday Wizardry topic is: Filibuster's best product.

2 points were awarded to Pampero and 1 point was awarded to Kohilo! Kohilo is now in the lead with 16 points, and Matanuska follows close behind with 15 points. Pampero now has 7 points, and Brubu has 6 points.

Greenwood art walk
IMG_0038
The Greenwood Art Walk was last weekend. We had a quilter who does a lot of three-D work in the store where I work. More pics Here and Here. Her name escapes me though! Opps.

IMG_0043

For the Art Walk we always do some fiber related craft while we are there- knitting, spinning, crochet, felting, etc.

IMG_0041

I was, of course, spinning!

IMG_0042

I hadn't spun any two ply plain white singles lately, so I spent some time doing that (long draw, if it matters). I think I will actually over dye this particular skein to match the skein you see in the back- which in turn matches some other skeins I have drying on my rack.

Spud
SPUD did not get off to a good start for me. I really want to like them (though I had already planned on putting my account on hold since there is a farmer's market by my work), though I am not super impressed with the number of local produce options they have. Not only were some of the eggs in my order badly smashed (eww!), but another item was missing as well (and not a cheap one either!). With the exception of "Eat Local" products, they don't really have anything different from PCC or the farmer's market. I would still recommend them if you really didn't have time to grocery shop though.

I am also a little bit peeved that you get credits back for gel packs etc instead of them just charging you if you don't return them later on. I am sure that would be more work but...what if I don't want the credits? (Especially if I am not using it for a couple months). Also: another minor rant. Pioneer Organics used to give you a $20 credit for referrals. SPUD doesn't. Or rather, you get a pastry or something. We shall see.

Peacock feathers shawl
IMG_0037

Pattern: Peacock Feathers Shawl, Fiber Trends
Yarn: Malabrigo Lace, 2.5 skeins
Needles: Size 4 addi lace

IMG_0035

I totally didn’t have enough pins to pin out all of the crochet edges, but I don’t think I would have even if I did. Joey the cat was super interested in the blocking of the shawl, so it had to dry with a sheet over it. Overall I am happy with the shawl, though you can see where the yarn has felted up at the start of the shawl. Malabrigo lace is a single, that is, one ply, yarn and is very softly spun, probably via the long draw.
IMG_0034

The pattern is relatively easily mastered, perfect for knitting when I was in Hawaii. Occasional stitch markers are helpful if, like me, you are paying minimal attention to the knitting. I finished up the edging in a couple classes- a good way to make criminal law more bearable!

NY Times Article
The Ny Times has a really cool graphic up of how we spend. It's a wee bit scary (internet and computers are only .2 or .3% of income?) to look at. Mostly because I was just pricing health insurance- o man, only 6% of my income sounds pretty good to me right now. On the other hand, I don't spend nearly as much on transportation. Looking at the chart though really makes me think that the places/things people need to be changing is much more housing and transportation related, since they are such a huge part of the budget.

First Lettuce

I think these are the "first leaves" that are coming in for the lettuce. I thinned my seedlings a bit, and made a salad with radishes and carrot with a lemon-olive oil vinaigrette.

I accidentally showed up for my dentist appointment a day early on Monday! My dental hygienist, who has known me since I was six, thought it was pretty funny. Better early than a day late, I suppose. NO cavities- yay- since cavities are my biggest fear since they lead to...needles! I took the time to get a much needed haircut and find a more appropriate spring jacket, since apparently wearing my gray wool coat around is too wintry.

I need to pick out a health insurance plan. I am undecided as to whether I should go with a higher deductible plan that costs me less (which is what my family does as we are all pretty healthy- not catastrophic though, since I want primary/specialist visits to be covered, and need prescription coverage), or a higher price for less of a deductible. Add in the complication of deciding on if I should add and HSA (health savings account) to the mix, just to make things extra complicated!

I ain't ever gonna let you go, sista sista!
So last night was my last day of school.  I celebrated by buying The Host by Stephenie Meyer, author of the Twilight books.  Besides being really stoked for The Host, I can FINALLY start my summer reading.  I'm currently reading Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr and Kafka On the Shore by Haruki Murakami, and I'm going to check out Blue Bloods today, because, well, I want to read it.

Michael left for Iraq on Saturday, so he should be there by now.  He said he had to go to NY first, then to Ireland, then to Kuwait.  So wish him luck on that.  We're hoping he can go on leave around Christmas time, which will be cool.  I remember when Angel and Holly weren't here for Christmas, because Holly was in Germany or Austria, and Angel went to visit her, so she wouldn't be alone.  But it was really weird having half our family not there.  That was the Christmas I got the first four Harry Potter books from Angel and Mu :)  One of the best Christmas presents I ever got!  Anyway, my point of all that was, I like having us all together on Christmas, so I'm glad that Michael is going to take his leave in December, rather than at another time.  Also, Clayton said he'd come home for Christmas, so that'll be cool, too.

I've watched the Twilight trailer like twenty times already.  So good, but so aggravating, since the movie doesn't come out until December 12th.  'S okay, though, because Prince Caspian comes out on May 16th (Michael's 22nd birthday!) and the Sex and the City movie comes out May 30th (which Stokes and I are going to see together).  Plus I have a ton of stuff planned for this summer, so the time is just going to fly by until that lovely December day.  Though I'm actually more excited for Breaking Dawn and Terminus in August, but w/e.

Ok, pizza's calling.

* * *
So, I don't know if anyone, besides Angel and Holly, remembers when our cousin Ryan died about two years ago (link to my LJ post) but when I got home from Art tonight, Mu told me that his mom, my Aunt Pat, died from alcohol poisoning today.  Funeral's Friday.

*sigh*
